COCO FUSCO: I Like Girls in Uniform
48'31”, Brazil, 2006
Produced by Associação Cultural Videobrasil
Directed by Wagner Morales
A force to be reckoned with in the contemporary artistic and intellectual scene, US-based, Cuban-born artist Coco Fusco deals with culture shock in her essays, videos, installations, and performances. In Coco Fusco: I Like Girls in Uniform, the new Videobrasil Authors Collection documentary film, filmmaker Wagner Morales borrows elements from Fusco's work, as well as ordinary fragments of her everyday life, in order to introduce audiences to her complex universe of artistic theories and practices. Filmed in New York and São Paulo, the film revisits Fusco's trajectory as teacher, activist, performer, and researcher, and records the process of creation of Bare Life Study # 1, a performance inspired by US military torture tactics that was presented by Fusco during the 15th Videobrasil International Electronic Art Festival (2005).
