The third edition of the Festival took place at Teatro Sérgio Cardoso. Video gained ground in Brazil. The independent film company Olhar Eletrônico could now sell their work to prime-time TV shows to Rede Globo, and other TV channels such as Gazeta, Bandeirantes, and Cultura incorporated these new sources into their programming. Regardful of this scenario, the Festival featured three main themes: video’s arrival on TV, video theater, and the propagation of the growing national production both in Brazil and abroad. That was the first sign of stability for the new media. Monopoly of free to air television still gave rise to controversy. The great rewarded was the community TV experiment “TV Viva” (Live TV), from the city of Recife. This edition of the Festival featured a hollogram show and the creation of a Videobrasil Videolibrary, which would grow to include thousands of films.
