Digital poetics in the first years of this century is the object of research of Christine Mello, essayist and curator in the field of art and technological mediations and a member of the 15th Videobrasil International Electronic Art Festival Selection and Programming Committee. In this edition of FF>>Dossier, she writes about the work of Luiz Duva, which she regards as exemplary in the quest for expanding the language of video, as well as a landmark in the history of art involving technology and the body. Organized by Mello, both exhibitions Vorazes, Grotescos e Malvados (Paço das Artes, 2005) and Imagem não Imagem (Galeria Vermelho, 2003) included work by Duva.
Net art curator of the Brazilian representation at the 25th Bienal de São Paulo (2002), Mello earned a doctorate in Communication and Semiotics from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP) for her thesis Extremidades do Vídeo, a thirty-five-year-long immersion into Brazilian video art production seeking to uncover the rules of contemporary video art. Mello is postgraduate course coordinator for Image and Sound Creation Using Electronic Media at Senac - Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Comercial [the National Commercial Training Service], and a teacher at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP) and PUC - São Paulo.
