CLIO, PÁTRIA - 2009
Edited by critic and curator Lisette Lagnado, the fifth Caderno SESC_Videobrasil brings previously unpublished essays, excerpts from works and a manifesto on a subject matter that is related, in different ways, to the feminine and its influence on culture and intimacy. It explores the relapse of the “scandalous lucidity” in the face of the death of the mother, which lies at the origin of Série Trágica [Tragic series] by Flávio de Carvalho, which is the theme of an essay by Eliane Robert Moraes, and of Pas pu saisir la mort [Impossible to catch death], by Sophie Calle, interviewed by Lagnado. It opposes the questionings of Simone de Beauvoir in The Second Sex (1949) to the Declaration of the Women’s Assembly at the World Social Forum 2009, which links feminism to the struggle “against the capitalist and patriarchal global system.” It discusses the political aspects of artistic education, in an interview granted by the Colombians Beatriz González and María Angélica Medina to María Inés Rodríguez, and colonial identities, the theme of Christine Meisner’s work and of the Preface by Lucas Bambozzi and Daniela Castro.
