ARTE MOBILIDADE SUSTENTABILIDADE
[Art Mobility Sustainability] - 2006
The second issue of Caderno Videobrasil discusses the challenges thrust upon art by the intensification of urbanization, the growing access to new technologies, and the constant redrawing of political-economic-cultural maps. Anticipating the thematic line of thought running through the 16th Videobrasil (September 2007), the publication approaches the relationship between art and sustainability, and the way in which artistic practices benefit from the mobility inherent to the current scene. Featured essays include journalist Daniel Hora reviewing the impact of residencies on their surroundings; Grant H. Kester, of the University of California, San Diego, investigating the collaboration between art and sociopolitical subcultures; and Hans Dieleman, of the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in Mexico City, showing that, although not always recognized, sustainability has been a part of artistic practices for decades.
